Pixel Art Converter

Use this pixel art converter to turn a photo or illustration into a low-resolution image. Set the grid width and palette size, convert the image locally, then paint or erase individual pixels. Unlike the AI-assisted bead workbench, this converter downsamples your original image directly. No account or generation credits are needed.

Paint pixels or import an image to convert. Changes stay in this tab until you download.

Start at 64 pixels wide and 24 colors for photos. Clean edges avoids blended outlines; use Crisp pixels for existing pixel art. Vivid adds gentle contrast and saturation. Click Convert after changing settings.

For free conversions, original images stay on your device. Conversion results, duration and grid size are reported to the site, including when signed out.

No account or credits needed. Image conversion runs in your browser; the source file is not uploaded.

Choose resolution for the silhouette

Try 16 or 32 pixels for simple icons and 48 or 64 for portraits. A higher pixel count preserves more detail but produces a less chunky look. Very tall images are capped at 160 rows to keep editing manageable; crop your source first if its aspect ratio is extreme. After conversion, inspect edges and remove stray pixels with the eraser.

Reduce colors without confusing bead codes

The converter derives a small digital palette from the image, rather than assigning bead-brand codes. Transparent pixels remain empty. Lower color counts can merge subtle shading. For physical beads, use the image-to-perler-bead-pattern workbench, choose its Perler reference or MARD palette, and review the supply list.

Export sharp PNG pixels at the size you need

Download at 1× for the native pixel resolution or choose 4×, 8× or 16× for a larger image with crisp square pixels. The transparent background is retained in the PNG. Your source image and edits stay in this browser session; download before closing or reloading the page because the local canvas is not saved to your account.

Questions about this tool

Is this pixel art converter free?

Yes. This local browser tool does not require an account or credits. AI-assisted bead pattern generation is a separate feature that uses credits.

Is my photo uploaded for conversion?

No. Image decoding, palette reduction and pixel editing run locally in your browser. The separate AI bead workbench uploads an image when you ask it to generate a chart.
