How to Print Perler Bead Patterns: PNG, SVG, and PDF
Choose a download format, understand compact versus actual-size PDFs, and check print scaling before using a pattern beside your pegboard.

Before downloading, save any grid or palette edits and check the material list. A shared pattern is a published snapshot: update the share after changing the original if you want friends to download the new version.
Pick a format for the job
- PNG is convenient for phone viewing and sending an image. It is a raster file and shows pixel edges when enlarged.
- SVG keeps scalable graphics and text for browsers and compatible design software.
- PDF provides paper layout. Construction patterns offer compact single-page or actual-size tiled output.
- CSV lists color codes and counts for a spreadsheet. It is a material list, not a construction grid.
Download the construction chart for cell-by-cell assembly. Use the palette summary or CSV when you only need to check supplies.
Use a compact PDF for an overview
The default compact layout fits the complete pattern onto one A4 page. It saves paper and makes a useful overview, but does not guarantee that cells match the pegboard at physical scale.
On a large grid the printed codes will be smaller. Use on-screen zoom or switch to actual-size tiled output if they become difficult to read. Reducing the pattern's details solely to save paper can change the design.
Use tiled PDF for actual cell spacing
Board overlay PDFs require your measured peg-center spacing. Measure the distance from the first to the last of 11 consecutive peg centers and divide by 10; bead diameter is not a substitute for this measurement. Large grids span multiple A4 pages plus an overview and quantities. The download controls show the estimated page count.
For counting by code, choose the enlarged counting chart with fixed 5 mm cells. It is easier to read, but is not a pegboard overlay.
Page count depends on width, height, cell spacing, and the usable A4 area. It is not a fixed one-page-per-pegboard rule. The same cell count can need different page counts at different spacing.
Check scaling before printing every page
- Open the actual-size PDF in a PDF reader.
- Select A4 and 100% / actual size. Disable fit-to-page scaling.
- Print one grid sheet first and measure its 10 mm calibration line.
- If it measures correctly, print the other sections and use their row and column ranges to orient them.
The calibration bar checks print scale. Also compare several consecutive pegs against the grid and check board seams.
Check printer margin or clipping warnings. If the calibration length is wrong, look for additional scaling in the printer driver before trying another sheet.
Buy beads by code, not printed color
Screens, printers, and plastic beads render colors differently. Match the brand, series, code, and quantity, especially for skin tones and similar grays or pinks.
Counts describe the current pattern and exclude lost beads, damage, and test pieces. Keep a small reserve suited to your own process.
For grayscale printing, inspect code legibility first. Our construction charts use color codes; they do not provide a separate cross-stitch-style symbol mapping.
Share a downloadable pattern
Create a share link once the pattern is ready. Friends can view and download that snapshot without signing in. Update the share when you change the pattern, or disable it when you want the link to stop working.
Try downloading the free heart pattern, or make your own pattern. For phone-based assembly, read how to read a chart and track progress.
Printing questions
Why does my PDF have so many pages?
Check whether you selected actual-size tiling. Compact output reduces paper use; tiled output keeps physical cell spacing.
Can a PNG print at the right physical size?
Image placement alone does not establish scale, and document software may resize it. Use the actual-size PDF and calibration line when precision matters.
Can I print only the bead list?
Download the palette summary, or print only the material pages in your PDF reader. CSV is useful for checking quantities in a spreadsheet.
